Ethan McGowne is the Head Boy at Perth Academy with a strong interest in the natural environment and outdoor pursuits. An enthusiastic hillwalker, he is an aspiring Munro bagger and documents his progress through his Instagram platform, Hike Perthshire, where he shares photography, route insights, and local history from across Scotland.
Ethan has a longstanding interest in climate change, shaped by his close connection to the outdoors. He is particularly motivated by the visible impact of environmental change on natural landscapes and is committed to promoting conservation and sustainability. He has previously contributed to voluntary conservation work at Mar Lodge Estate as part of its restoration project.
In his role as Head Boy, Ethan represents the student body at Perth Academy, and as a Youth Commissioner, he seeks to amplify the voices of young people in his community who are concerned about environmental issues. He is especially interested in addressing gaps in climate change education at the early secondary level and advocating for improved awareness and engagement among younger students.
Ethan plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Politics and Economics, recognising the strong connections between these fields and climate policy. He sees his involvement with SHIFT as an important opportunity to deepen his understanding of environmental challenges and the societal responses required to address them.
