Sakura Manthreerathne has over a decade of experience in environmental sustainability and community-focused initiatives. She currently works within Corporate Democratic Services, People and Culture at Perth & Kinross Council. Her career spans both public and private sectors, including previous work in corporate sustainability within the apparel industry, where she contributed to landmark achievements such as securing the world’s first Net Zero Carbon status for a manufacturing facility and the first LEED Platinum certification globally.
She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Environmental Law and has undertaken research examining the implications of the emerging international plastics treaty on UK legislation. She is keen to further her academic work through a PhD, focusing on climate-related challenges in the Perth and Kinross region, with the aim of translating research into practical, locally driven solutions.
Passionate about creating a greener and healthier Scotland, Sakura is committed to empowering communities to take meaningful climate action and contributing to global leadership in sustainability and resilience. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys exploring Scotland’s landscapes, fostering connections between people and nature, and promoting environmental awareness at a community level.
